tEAm news #62 | 20.10.21

Welcome to this week’s Team News - the last for 2 weeks as we are taking next week off for half term.

As always the Autumn term is whizzing by and we are already preparing for fireworks and bonfires. As the nights draw in and the weather gets colder we hope you are enjoying winter treats and cosy nights in.

The climate can change but can we ??.

Dates

Warehouse Move

We are planning to move the gear from Tonbridge to the barn at Penshurst on 1st November. Originally planned for the previous week it proved difficult to find enough people as it is half term.

Please pray for good weather and inspiration to get a quart into a pint pot! Once we have made the move we should not be at the mercy of others and short notice to quit. All thanks to the generosity of Harry Fredrick.

Cop 26

Paul and Heather would value your prayers as we head to Glasgow for COP 26. We will be with a group of 15 Christians who we walked with to COP 21 in Paris back in 2015 from October 27th to November 8th. This time there will be less walking and more praying, although we will be joining in on the last leg of the Young Christians Climate Network march into Glasgow on October 30th, and marching for climate justice on Saturday 6 November on the Global Day of Action for the Climate. But we are there primarily to pray for the hearts of world leaders to hear the cry of the poor and to take action to reduce the greenhouse gases that are being emitted into the atmosphere so that we achieve carbon net zero by 2050. This issue of justice is brought out very clearly in this simple Tearfund animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LSY0u0Fexw&t=1s

It's the message that ‘The High Life’ is bringing to students in schools around the country.

Thanks, Paul & Heather

Little Amal is here!

We met her as she arrived in Folkestone. Here’s a short video of the experience. It was powerful! She’s in London this weekend: https://www.walkwithamal.org

Other News updates

  • The partnership with the Puppetry Festival has been great exposure for EA and working with other artists. The Museum of the Moon in Calverley Grounds was stunning! We’re hoping that schools will now sign up for the workshops in Nov after seeing Eli & the Golem. It was a really powerful show about Eli a jewish father who fled Poland and was relocated in Kent. The performance follows his wait for his daughter, Heddy, to arrive on the kindertransport. There’s may be another chance to see the play in Farnham school on the 8th Nov. If you are interested in going let Ben know as he might be able to sneak a few of us in.

  • 2 students (Barbara & Krishna) from Activate Learning (Oxford) are looking at hybrid placements (predominantly remotely) here over the coming year (c 1-2 days per week). Interviews happening this week.

  • The High Life is targeted at secondary schools but the materials have been passed over to Alison T & Heather P to see how it could be adapted and used in a primary school setting.

  • Schools starting to get back in touch. We’ve had enquiries from Thorpe House (for a poverty programme) & Skinners Kent Academy Primary (Climate).

  • Pene has flagged a KCC Recovery Fund that Paul & Ben are looking into. Thanks Pene!

  • We’re working on re-writing EA right now given all the changes of the past 18 months into a newer strategic direction beyond 2021. We’ll be looking afresh at how we can bring in the money & people to build an organisation that has taken a huge pandemic hit. If you have any suggestions please email Ben

  • We’re still interviewing Trevor (we featured him last week) about his journey from Zimbabwe to Kent. He’s keen to get more involved and we’re looking at him coming in more regularly on Fridays. Welcome Trevor!

  • Do you know any local businesses that would like to use our products as a Christmas gift to their employees to say ‘Thank You’ - if so then we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking at targeting a few groups to use the gifts to say thank you to their staff.
