10 Years of EA part 1: our heartbeat
10 years ago, we started with a simple belief:
“Walk in someone else’s shoes and be moved to act for others.”
This has been, in a nutshell, our heart
Incredibly what has made it beat, for 10 years, has been our volunteers, partners, and community.
We have a phrase in EA: “we’re only as good as our team”... and boy has this team stepped up to #chooseempathy and transform lives through compassion, and understanding through heartfelt humanitarian efforts over these years.
Here’s a sample of that heartbeat!
Bringing you closer to the proverbial ‘least of these’
Our immersive workshops have brought individuals closer to the real-world challenges. They are personal journeys that challenge perspectives and drive action from primary school children to older adults. Here is a glimpse of these workshops:
The High Life: Explore how the impact of your choices ripple across other parts of the world through our interactive film-based climate justice workshop. Visit two fictional countries - Opuland and Ardosland (it’s free to download and run yourself)
Desperate Journeys: Step into the lives behind the headlines through real-life stories surrounding the refugee crisis.
The Poverty Trap: Get a glimpse into what it feels like to be caught in extreme poverty, through a workshop built on first-hand accounts.
Behind the workshops are our incredible volunteers (the heart beat!)
Over the decade, we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside amazing people. As a result, here is what Peter Coats, one of the 14,500 participants that have gone through our workshops has to say after attending the Desperate Journeys workshop:
“It’s always a thing with news... people talk big numbers… it’s anonymous. If you then meet one person who is a refugee… it becomes personal… I wish people could feel a little bit about how it feels to be displaced.”
Head, Hearts & Hands
We think that this ‘heart knowledge’ is pretty crucial in our world (especially right now!)… alongside head knowledge and even practical (‘hand’) knowledge. We’ll come to these in a later part of this series of 10 Years of EA posts.
Ps- Let us know if you are interested in volunteering or being part of our Empathy Angels!
